RAWA: Back to Complete Prohibition U.S. Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) scheduled a hearing on RAWA (Restoration of America’s Wire Act) for Wednesday, December 9, 2015. The hearing is scheduled before the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform where Rep. Chaffetz serves as Chairman. The hearing is self-titled ‘A Casino in Every Smartphone’.
RAWA, or the Restoration of America’s Wire Act, was introduced by Rep Chaffetz in February. The legislation essentially bans all online gaming in the U.S at the federal level. If the bill were to become law, states would not be allowed to offer regulated and taxed online casino games or poker to residents, effectively rolling back existing regulations in at least three states (New Jersey, Nevada, Delaware).
